Animal Stories

Some animals that come into our shelter are such that we can match them up with a rescue group. Rescue groups are sometimes breed specific, while others are size specific.  Breed specific groups offer those animals to find a home where people are specifically looking for a specific type dog. Many of these dogs have numerous health issues that are very expensive or the recovery time will be such that we are not able to find a foster home for an extended period of time.  These groups network with local groups to help these animals by bringing them into their rescue groups and find homes for these animals.

This page is devoted to animals that have gone to another rescue group and started at the Bainbridge shelter. The rescue group has agreed to keep us informed of their progress with the animal.

Leo

July 2004

Meet Leo. Leo came to the City of Bainbridge shelter as an owner turn in. Very thin, Leo had sarcoptic mange and was heartworm positive. After identifying him as an English Springer Spaniel, the Bainbridge Humane Society contacted English Springer Rescue America and the Atlanta chapter was willing to rescue him. Leo was driven to Thomasville and then transported to Atlanta where he is continuing his treatment for mange and his heartworm treatment is also beginning.
He will be fostered in a home in Atlanta until he is eligible for adoption. His sweet nature has won his foster mom over already! She will keep us updated on his condition as he improves..
